AI-CARING Hosts 2025 Student Symposium at Georgia Tech
Mar 03, 2025

Julianna Schalkwyk, a second-year computer science Ph.D. student at Georgia Tech's School of Interactive Computing, and Rayna Hata, a second-year Ph.D. student at Carnegie Mellon University's Robotics Institute, co-organized the 2025 AI-CARING Student Symposium at Georgia Tech. Schalkwyk works in the CORE Robotics Lab under Professor Matthew Gombolay, while Hata is advised by Dr. Aaron Steinfeld in the Transportation, Bots, and Disability Lab. Their research focuses on assistive technology and human-robot interactions.
The symposium featured 24 students from Georgia Tech, Carnegie Mellon University, Oregon State University, the University of Massachusetts Lowell, Stanford University, Oregon Health & Science University, the University of Texas at San Antonio, and Northeastern University, all supporting AI-CARING.
The event included a panel discussing the Wesley Woods deployment, featuring Zach Beattie, Agata Rozga, Niharika Mathur, Jiachen Li, and Sangha Park, followed by another panel with Stephanie Rosenthal, Sam Reig, and Pragathi Praveena, who discussed career opportunities after graduate school.
Students had the opportunity to workshop their projects, receive valuable feedback, and address potential challenges with input from fellow AI-CARING members and participants.
