AI-CARING Members at CMU Explore Creativity in "Cats in Latent Space"
Feb 12, 2025

"Cats in Latent Space" is an engaging new video that explains how generative AI models like Stable Diffusion transform text into images. It was created by Carnegie Mellon Computer Science Professor David Touretzky and Adithya Kameswara Rao, a master's student at CMU specializing in machine learning.
The video takes viewers on a graphical exploration of the 4,000-dimensional "latent image space" that underlies the Stable Diffusion algorithm—with the help of many cats.
This work was funded by grants from NEOM Company and the U.S. National Science Foundation.
